Strengthen Intellectual Property Laws- Intellectual Property Bill
Industrialization PS Dr. Juma Mukhwana has called for the strengthening of intellectual property laws even as the Intellectual Property Bill enters the parliamentary stage.
Speaking today when he engaged the Anti-Counterfeit Authority and the Kenya Industrial Property Institute teams on proposals to improve the Kenya intellectual property bill, the PS also noted the need to also incorporate stringent regulations to avert plagiarism and use of AI.
"Te EU now has passed the AI policy that we should also see what to borrow to curb the increased use of AI to generate content and academic papers for originality, " he added.
The law seeks to harmonize and strengthen regulation of the IP sector, even as the institutions are expected to form a merger, bringing together the Intellectual Property, Trademark, and Geographical Indication laws under one umbrella body.
Dr. Mukhwana rallied the team behind protecting intellectual property, calling on the incorporation of clauses around plagiarism and AI international laws.
In attendance were Industrialization Secretary Prof. Erastus Gatebe, Directors Joseph Mbeva (Field Services) and Murira Karukwa (Planning), among others.
The proposals will be presented before the parliamentary committee on Trade and Industrialization on Tuesday morning.
