Kenya seeks UNIDO’s expertise to grow industries in the counties

Kenya is seeking to tap from United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) expertise and experience in Industrial Parks development to actualize her ambitious industrialization agenda.
The industries target agro-value chain development, establishment of special economic zones, and digitization.
This was disclosed in a meeting held between the Principal Secretary for Industry Dr. Juma Mukhwana and the Director General of UNIDO Mr. Gerd Muller during the 51st session of the UNIDO board yesterday.
The PS said that Kenya had made remarkable strides in inclusive and sustainable industrial development by allocating significant funds towards the establishment of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs).
He explained that the CAIPs project was integral to Kenya’s Big 4 agenda aiming to enhance farmers income, reduce post-harvest losses, spur manufacturing, and promote forward linkages in the counties.

Given UNIDOs commitment to planet action, Dr. Mukhwana called for UNIDO’s support as Kenya prepares to host Africa Climate Summit from the 4th -6th September 2023.
“With UNIDO’s focus on the green hydrogen and de-carbonization industry, your participation will provide invaluable insights,” said the PS.
He pointed out that UNIDO’s goals resonated well with the objectives set forth in Kenya’s Current Bottom-up Economic Transformation agenda.
“This shared vision augments our partnership and mutual design for a sustainable inclusive future,” said Dr. Mukhwana.
