Signing of a lease agreement for the Kenya Industrial Leather Park (Kenanie).
Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry CS. Lee Kinyanjui (Centre) is joined by Principal Secretaries, for Industry Dr. Juma Mukhwana(second right), for Investment, Abubakar Hassan (second left), during the signing of a lease agreement for the Kenya Industrial Leather Park (Kenanie).
The pact, between Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) and Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) paves the way for operationalization of the park, 50 KM away from Nairobi CBD, with already 36 investors are lining up to take spaces in the tanneries and warehouses available.
The deal unlocks a 10 year standoff between the two agencies, that had denied investors an opportunity to invest in the multibillion leather industry.
CS Kinyanjui regretted the bureaucracy, noting that the park will afford the Industry more industrial spaces for leather tanning, increasing earnings from the sector that projects absorption of 200, 000 Kenyans in employment and contribute Shs.130B to GDP by 2030.
Also present were KDLC Chair Mohammed Aden (left), EPZA Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Richard Ipero Omelu (right), Chief of Staff Wanjiku Wakogi, KLDC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Issack M. Noor and Industrialization Secretary Prof. Erastus Gatebe, among others.
