The State Department for Industry has signed a Memorandum of Corporation (MoC) with Edukans Kenya
The State Department for Industry has today signed a Memorandum of Corporation (MoC) with Edukans Kenya promising to offer support to the Wear The Green Future(WTGF) project.
The project aims at achieving circularity and sustainability in the Cotton, Textiles and Apparel sector, which is one of the biggest environmental polluters.
During the meeting, PS representive Director for Research, Manufacturing and Industrialization Policy, Roy Nyangena, noted that the State Department will engage in collaboration with academia and research institutions in an effort to ensure that a framework for the co-creation of new programmes and projects as well as the creation of joint resource mobilization efforts to support skills development and sustainable livelihoods, is achieved.
This, he noted, will contribute to national development priorities through improved skills acquisition, technology transfer and application across key economic sectors.
The WTGF project which also aims at providing sustainability of livelihoods through offering support for the development of skills especially amongst the youth, will also be engaged in the development of short-term courses with agencies such as the Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI). It will, at the same time, facilitate partnerships with MSMEs to integrate green technologies and sustainable practices in their operations.
In attendance during the signing of the MoC were Edukans Kenya Country Director Mary Mugo, Directors Joseph Mbeva (Field Services), Stanley Koskei (Agro-industries), Robert Kungu (Legal) and MITI Cotton, Textile and Apparel Expert, Anne Wamae among others.
