SDI, KIE AND KNBS conduct sensitization on Industrial Mapping Exercise in Nairobi County
The State Department, in collaboration with Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), is preparing to undertake an industry mapping exercise in Nairobi County, scheduled for May and June 2025. As part of the preparation, a data collection tool (questionnaire) has been developed to facilitate the exercise.
The project chair, Ms. Hannah Kiarie, convened a virtual sensitization meeting with stakeholders to introduce and familiarize them with the questionnaire. This engagement is part of the pre-testing phase, which is set to take place on Wednesday and Friday this week.
The tool is designed to enhance data collection efficiency and allow real-time data capture by KNBS. Key information that the industries are expected to provide are the industry's GPS location, number of employees, sources of raw materials, their utilities and their notable achievements. Others include their operating capacities, comments on taxation and their products.
Industries targeted for this exercise are drawn from manufacturing, mining, quarrying and construction. Data anticipated are for the last calendar year running from January to December, 2024.
During the meeting, the Director highlighted that the Research Assistants conducting the exercise are government officers and will carry official identification. She also reassured participants that all data collected will be handled in strict compliance with data protection standards.
