CS H.E SALIM MVURYA MGALA OFFICIAL VISIT TO EAST AFRICAN PORTLAND CEMENT PLC FACTORY, 10TH SEPTEMBER 2024
The Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, intends to hold a stakeholders forum to deep-dive into obstacles preventing growth of industries in Kenya and recommend possible solutions, Cabinet Secretary in charge Hon. Salim Mvurya has said.
Hon Mvurya who was on a tour to confirm revitalisation trajectory at the East African Portland Cement factory urged the management to leverage technology and produce clinker for local consumption and export.
He called upon cement factories in the country to take advantage of the newly introduced Export and Investment Promotion Levy to rump up local production of clinker.
The levy is a commitment of 17% tariff aiming to decrease the reliance of Kenyan cement companies on foreign raw materials and promote growth of domestic production besides supporting job creation and bolstering local industries.
“In navigating these changes”, said the CS, “ the ministry is dedicated to fostering an environment where local industries can thrive and contribute to the country’s economic prosperity”.
