Industrial Mapping and Geo-location of Industries in Nairobi enters Reporting Stage
After three weeks of industrial mapping data collection exercise, in Nairobi City County, the exercise has moved to the report writing stage.
A team comprising of officers from the State Department for Industry (SDI), Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), and Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) retreated to undertake data cleaning and analysis.
"The primary objective of the data cleaning exercise was to prepare a clean and standardized dataset that can be analyzed by reviewing, refining and validating the raw data collected during the 3-week fieldwork activity across all sub-locations of Nairobi City County," noted Chair, Industrial Mapping Technical Working Group-TWG, Hannah Kiarie.
Ms. Kiarie, who also doubles as Director for Industries at SDI, noted that the cleanup was necessary to ensure accuracy, consistency, completeness and readiness of the dataset, that will be subjected to further analysis and development of the Directory for Industries.
The team that is attending a report-writing workshop at Gem Suites in Westlands, Nairobi which has been ongoing since 11th June 2025, has exuded confidence that the exercise will conclude as scheduled.
"The primary objectives of the report writing workshop for the Mapping and Geolocation of Industries exercise is to synthesize the collected data into a coherent and comprehensive analytical report and to ensure consistency, accuracy, and clarity in the presentation of findings."
The report writing workshop is expected to review and validate the data collected during the mapping exercise to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all sections of the report.
Also, an analysis and interpretation of key findings from the industrial mapping data, including trends in spatial distribution, sectoral composition, and operational characteristics of establishments within Nairobi City County, will be undertaken.
The team is also expected to develop a coherent and well-structured report that effectively presents the methodology, findings, and implications of the mapping exercise.
This will also demand alignment of the report’s content with national and county development priorities, ensuring it remains relevant and useful to policymakers, planners, and other stakeholders.
A stakeholder validation forum, that will bring together manufacturers, industry players, state and non-state actors as well as members of the public in scrutinizing the report, will take place on June 24, 2025 ahead of the development of a Directory for Industries for Nairobi County.
The State Department for Industry also plans to roll out the phase two of the exercise across the other 46 counties.
