HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT WILLIAM RUTO AND HIS DJIBOUTI COUNTERPART ISMAIL OMAR GUELLEH

  1. Kenya to remove visa requirements for Djiboutian citizens.
  2. Kenya to offer 300 positions in higher learning institutions to Djibouti students at fees applicable to Kenyan students. 
  3. Kenya to support English training and integration into the Djibouti curriculum. 
  4. Kenyan TVETs to benefit from the inclusion of French language trainees from Djibouti.
  5. Kenya to consider purchasing Djibouti undersea cable - as proposed by Djibouti Telcoms to sell the facility to Kenya. 
  6. Accelerate negotiations on comprehensive labour agreement.
  7. Fastback restoration of direct flights connecting the two countries. 
  8. Facilitate improved market access between the two countries.
  9. Expand bilateral relations especially in health, information communication technology (ICT), education, energy, and agriculture.

Kenya and Djibouti have also signed four memoranda of understanding:

  1. Cooperation in the field of energy development. - The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KENGEN) will drill two geothermal wells in Djibouti.
  2. Technical Cooperation in the Development of Youth Affairs and the Arts  
  3. Cooperation in the Foreign Service Academy. 
  4. Collaboration in the field of tourism.
