Mr. Kirima is the Director of Industries, currently heading Chemical and Mineral Industries Directorate, having risen up the ranks in the civil service from Industrial Development Officer II.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and is writing his thesis for the award of PhD in Entrepreneurship from JKUAT, having successfully completed the coursework and sat exam.
He has undergone several certificate courses which includes Certified Advanced Senior Project Management; Post Graduate Cetificate in Management Science; Strategic Leadership Development Programme (SLDP); Senior Management Course (SMC); Industrialization Policy Development in Africa; Policy Analysis, Design, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation; Strategic planning and performance management, Negotiation Skills; Ceramic Kiln and Firing Technology; Sustainable Environmental Management; and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the Pharmaceutical Sector, among others.
He was awarded Head of State Commendation (HSC) for his distinguished service to the Republic of Kenya in 2011 and Moran of the Order of Burning Spear (MBS) in 2022 in recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.
From May 2021 to September 2022 he served as the Technical Advisor to Principal Secretary, State Department for Industrialization. He chaired the Technical Committee that developed Local Content Policy and Intellectual Property Bill, 2022. Previously, Mr. Kirima had served as Deputy Director of Internal Trade and Chair of the Technical Committee that Drafted Code of Practice and Draft Regulations for the Retail Trade Sector. He was also chair of the Technical Committee that developed Anti-Counterfeit Bill 2008, and later become Ag. CEO to Operationalize the Anti-Counterfeit Agency, Coordinator for Kenya Trade and Poverty Programme (KTPP,) and Member of a High-Level Task Force that negotiated the East African Community Common Market Protocol. He has played key role in the development of policies, legislation and other important documents in both public and private sectors in various fields at national, regional and international levels.
Mr. Kirima is also a Lead Expert in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Audit.
