Mr. Julius Korir
State Department of Industry and Enterprise Development
Mr. Julius K. Korir is the Principal Secretary, State Department of Industry and Enterprise Development in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Co-operatives having been appointed on 18th December 2015. Prior to his latest appointment, he served as the Industrialization Secretary, Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development from May 2014.
As the Industrialization Secretary, Mr. Korir was instrumental in coordinating the Government initiatives under the Ease of Doing Business Reforms where Kenya improved tremendously, in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business 2016 report. He also played a central role in the development of Kenya’s Industrial Transformation Program (KITP), Kenya’s current Industrialization Blueprint for the next 10 years.
Previously, he served in the Export Promotion Council for over 15 years in various positions rising up to become the General Manager in charge of Trade Information and Business Advisory Services in 2008. For one year between August 2011 and August 2012, he served as the Acting Managing Director for the Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest). He is a holder of an MBA in International Business and a BSc. in Agricultural Economics. Mr. Korir is currently pursuing a PHD Degree in Development Studies at Nairobi University.
Mr. Julius Korir has had an industrious and successful career in trade & industrial development; and senior management positions in various institutions. His area of experience includes industrial development; export trade promotion, investment destination promotion, private sector development and small enterprise competitiveness enhancement. He has wide experience in implementing best practice in export trade promotion and market linkages strategies; and extensive experience in planning, coordinating and executing group country participation in international trade fairs/exhibitions as well as preparing enterprises (supplier preparations) for effective participation in the promotional events.
His experience also extends to managing Public/Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives to bring together public and private sector stakeholders. He has been spearheading strategies and initiatives of “making markets work for the poor”. Such initiatives include establishment of Export Production Villages (EPVs)/clusters. The PS has also been involved in managing donor funded projects and was team leader for a number of Projects.
