The State Department for Investment and Industry in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives is preparing the Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP) planned to be financially supported by the World Bank. The project development objective is to increase productivity and innovation in select private sector firms in Kenya. The project is expected to create a pipeline for more private sector investments in both startups and traditional industries. The key components of KIEP include strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem; increasing productivity and innovation at the firm level; and Project Implementation Support, monitoring and evaluation. The Government of Kenya (GOK) intends to engage qualified consultant(s) and firms in the following areas:

  1. Supporting incubators, accelerators, and related hubs through Performance-Based Contracts;
  2. Providing World-Class, International Acceleration Services;
  3. Administering and/or Providing Rapid Technical Skills Trainings;
  4. Implementing Academia-Industry Platform;
  5. Implementing Industry-Startup Platform; and
  6. Managing and Implementing Productivity Upgrading Program for Small and Medium-Sized Firms

The project budget is estimated at USD 50 million. Project procurement is to follow the World Bank’s 2016 Procurement Regulations for Investment Projects Financing (IPF) Borrowers and is expected to commence in June 2018.

To this end, the State Department for Investment and Industry hereby invites interested private sector stakeholders and industry players to a two day consultation conference/meeting to start at 3:00 pm to 6.30 pm on 29tttth and 30tttth August 2017 at the World Bank Offices to enable participation by both local and foreign stakeholders. The detailed schedule for the two days meetings is available here.

The objectives of the meetings are:

  1. To relay general information on the project to project stakeholders, present details of procurement activities, including possible delivery models and implementation arrangements;
  2. To generate various options for selection of service providers/consultants and seek feedback on the suitability and sustainability of the proposed project design from potential providers/consultants.
  3. To receive feedback from Industry players as a process of market sounding, and to use the market information for the preparation of the project procurement strategy.

We strongly encourage stakeholders to participate (National/International consultants with local affiliates/associates) in this process and to use the meeting as an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments regarding this upcoming project procurement opportunity.
